Charles Rhodes was born in York and educated at Pocklington School. Always a passionate singer, Charles has been singing in choirs since he was 5. Whilst at school in Pocklington, he first experienced leading small choral groups. Following school Charles moved on to University of Manchester, where he studied Music. Whilst at University he became the founding Musical Director of Leeds Vocal Movement a unique open access choir aimed at young adults alongside being a choral scholar at Salford Cathedral. In 2013 Charles took over directorship of Huddersfield Voices with whom he has performed works such as Messiah and Olivet to Calvary. Since 2014 Charles has been working as a choral director for Leeds Cathedral. He has taken part in ABCD workshops and has also worked for Opera North, Stagecoach Theatre Arts and Opera Seria. He is also part of a core team of Conductors founding the Halcyon Youth Choir, a new choir set up as part of Harrogate Choral Society. Charles is also Musical Director of Scunthorpe Co-operative Junior Choir and has been since 2014.
Charles became Musical Director of Aire Valley Singers in September 2017 and is already making a positive impact.
